These engines are generally considered bullet proof, the only problems they tend to suffer with any degree of regularity are gearbox problems.

So here is a good example. An engine strip to repair a gearbox that jumps out of a particular gear usually second or third would be: £299 labour plus parts. The cost of parts for this type of job will obviously vary depending on the degree of damage.

Here is an example of a top end rebuild for a four cylinder engine. This involves removal of cylinder head and barrels. Replacing the piston rings, honing the cylinders, removing checking grinding and then re-fitting the valves with new valve stem oil seals.
Then re assembled with new head and base gaskets, valve clearances checked and adjusted with new cam cover gasket fitted.

The labour for this would be £399+ parts, the cost of parts can vary depending on the make and model of bike.
